Community Wellness for April 2026
Monthly wellness resources from University Settlement: changes to SNAP work requirements, (mental) decluttering tips, and report on recent wellness fair
NYQM April Newsletter
Part 1: SNAP Work Requirement Changes
As of March 1st 2026, SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits participants started receiving (rolling basis) a letter regarding work requirement changes from HRA (Human Resources Administration).
If you are 1) between 18-64 yo; 2) do not have a documented disability or do not live with a child/children under the age of 14, please check your mail and e-notices on ACCESS HRA. If you, or a friend receive a “Work Activity Letter” from HRA, do not ignore it! Meet with your career service provider to get support and avoid interruptions to your SNAP benefits. Call 311 if you need assistance or contact the Community Wellness Program at communitywellness@nycquakers.org.
Part 2: Seasonal Wellness Tips: Declutter your Mind!
Spring is officially here, and as you may be spring cleaning your physical space, take this opportunity to declutter your mind as well.
- Single-Tasking: Focus on one task at a time to improve your focus and reduce stress.
- Slow Down: Reduce haste in daily tasks, such as walking or eating, to feel less overwhelmed.
- Brain Dump: Take 5-10 minutes to write down every task. Worry and plan on paper instead of carrying it around your brain.
Part 3: Community Wellness Resource Fair
We had our first Community Wellness Resource Fair on 4/14 at the Brooklyn Meeting House and had a group of friends with us. We went over SNAP, Housing, Medicaid together and had some one-on-one times. If you’re interested in knowing more of these topics and having a chat about important changes on some of these programs or other social services and benefits and entitlements resources, please reach out at communitywellness@nycquakers.org.
