Davanga Friends School
Manhattan Meeting established and continues to support and develop the Davanga Friends School in Western Kenya. In 2024-25, Manhattan Meeting enabled the completion of six unfinished classrooms on the ground and second floors of the school. Read the July 2025 Davanga School report here.
"Since its inception in 2009, Davanga Friends School has stood as a testament to the collective effort and generosity of our Quaker community. Currently, with six classrooms, a teacher's common room, essential water infrastructure, and an administrative office, Davanga Friends School serves over 300 students ranging from Pre-K to 9th grade." — Witness Funds Committee Grant Proposal, April 2025
People of Color Worship & Reflection Group (“POC”)
People of Color Worship & Reflection Group (“POC”) is a worship group conducted in the manner of the Religious Society of Friends and is under the care of Manhattan Monthly Meeting. POC is committed to the “open, expectant religion” envisioned by the original founders of Quakerism with an emphasis on exploring the rich spiritual heritage and traditions of People of Color in America.
“There is a principle, which is pure, placed in the human mind, which in different places and ages hath had different names. It is, however, pure and proceeds from God. It is deep and inward, confined to no forms of religion nor excluded from any, where the heart stands in perfect sincerity. In whomsoever this takes root and grows, of what nation soever, they become brethren.” John Woolman, 1776
The group meets at 10:00 am on second Sundays at Flushing Meeting.
