NYC Quakers Join No Wars, No ICE, and No Kings Protest
More than 30 Friends marched in Sunday's peaceful No Wars, No ICE, No Kings protest in New York City.
On Sunday, January 11, 2026, a No Wars, No ICE, and No Kings protest was held in New York City, spurred by last week's murder of a US citizen by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent in Minneapolis. Friends gathered at Quaker meetinghouses after morning worship and traveled together to the protest site at 60th Street and 5th Ave. A few Friends weren't able to reach the main Quaker group at the meet-up spot due to the size of the crowd and joined the march on their own. A Signal group helped Friends coordinate during the event. Our Quaker banners made a strong impression and helped Friends locate each other in the crowd (see photos above). Heather Buchan of Brooklyn recalled, "Groups of us were divided in the mass of people and we did use Signal to track other groups but it was a visual sighting of the flags that inspired Friends most. It's also nice when others recognize them, come by and tell their 'Quaker story,' how they know a Friend or were engaged in some event or had a teacher or friend or...."
The protest marched from the southeast corner of Central Park to W. 42nd St and Broadway. Friends found the march peaceful, invigorating, and motivating. If you'd like to protest with Quakers in the future, consider joining the NYC Quakers email list or the NYC Quakers Signal group to receive timely information.
