Article and Update on Mouctar Diallo, Brooklyn Frontiers Student Detained by ICE
Mouctar Diallo, the Brooklyn Frontiers high school student detained by ICE, is featured in a NYTimes article and has written a letter to his school community.

Mouctar Diallo, the Brooklyn Frontiers high school student detained by ICE in August, is one of the students featured in a recent NYTimes article on the deportation threat to immigrant students in NYC. The article, titled “These Students Are Scared. Friends and Teachers Are Their Protectors.” focuses on the help that teachers and administrators have given to these students.
Brooklyn Frontiers is the tight-knit transfer high school next door to Brooklyn Meeting. The school serves public school students above the usual age for high school, including recent immigrants and homeless students, who are working to earn the credits needed for a diploma. Members of the school community spoke about the extra care they give their students during the tour and open house the school held for NYC Quakers earlier this year.
The principal of Brooklyn Frontiers, Alona, is in regular contact with Mouctar and has visited him in detention in PA several times. Alona recently shared with NYC Quakers a letter Mouctar wrote to the Brooklyn Frontiers community as she now considers us part of the larger Brooklyn Frontiers community. In the letter, Mouctar expresses gratitude for the support he's received. “The amazing surprise of my life is that my school is standing as a pillar I can rest on while going through my hardship." It is hoped that Mouctar can return home to NYC soon.
