Space Use Policies and Building Guidelines
People or organizations using the spaces in New York Quarter’s buildings must agree to follow these policies when renting, reserving, or occupying the space. These spaces are home to a diverse community of F/friends who are brought together by our shared values and understanding that there is a light inside of each and every one of us. Core values in Quakerism include simplicity, peace, integrity, community, equality, and stewardship. In some ways, Quaker beliefs can be thought of as a radical commitment to the golden rule. When using our spaces, we ask that you keep these values and commitments in mind.
Space Use Information and Rules
- We rent our spaces on a first-come, first-served basis at fair market value to any group whose activities are consistent with Quaker values, regardless of political affiliation.
- Renting space does not constitute endorsement of any candidate, political party, or specific legislation. We maintain clear boundaries between facility use and organizational endorsement.
- Generally, we will rent space for community meetings and forums; nonpartisan educational events; art, cultural, and social gatherings; nonprofit organization meetings; and issue-based discussions and advocacy meetings.
- Rentals are not allowed on Sundays. Please refer to the Building Hours and Holidays.
- Renters are responsible for the safe behavior of their guests. Renters are expected to monitor entry of visitors to the space and their behavior while in the space.
- The following are prohibited in all spaces:
- Alcohol of any kind or illegal drugs
- Smoking
- Open flames
- Weapons of any kind
- Food and drinks are only permitted in the following rooms: 15 Rutherford Common Room, 15 Rutherford Room One, 110 Schermerhorn Social Room, 110 Schermerhorn Kitchen, and 110 Schermerhorn Basement Conference Room.
- Renters are responsible for clean-up of the spaces they use, and returning them to the condition in which they are found. In the event that a space is not left in an acceptable condition following an event, there may be additional charges.
- Renters may not represent or imply that NYC Quakers or any of its Meetings supports, endorses, or sponsors their event, candidate, or cause in any promotional materials or communications. The space may be referred to generically in communications and publications, and renters may not use terms that identify the Quaker Meeting the event is being held at and/or NYC Quakers broadly. Renters instead may use the address of the location, eg, 110 Schermerhorn Street.
Audio Visual Equipment
Our locations are equipped with simple AV equipment, mainly intended for hybrid zoom meetings. For an additional fee, renters of the spaces may be able to use the equipment under the AV protocol provided with your rental agreement. Any media you intend to display must be sent to us prior to the event. If you are interested in using the AV equipment, we ask that you email friends@nycquakers.org.
