The Bowne House Historical Society shares a recently published article in the Journal Quaker History, titled:

"Long Island Quaker and Bowne Family Manumissions During the Revolutionary War and Post-Revolutionary War Eras."

This important story documents the decades-long effort (1771–1798) by the New York Meeting to manumit enslaved persons among its members—highlighting the Bowne and Parsons families’ leadership in abolition and later Underground Railroad involvement.
