Part 1: Staying Well This Winter
As the weather cools down and days grow shorter, this is the perfect time to slow down, care for yourself, and stay connected with others. Remember to dress warmly when heading out, keep hydrated, and eat well-balanced meals.
Even on chilly days, try to get a bit of sunlight or light movement — stretching by the window, a short indoor walk, or gentle exercises can lift your energy and mood. Staying in touch with friends, family, or neighbors, whether through a quick call or a friendly visit, can also brighten your days this season.
Small routines, like reading, listening to music, or doing something creative, can make these colder months feel more comforting and fulfilling.
Part 2: What’s Good to Know — Food Assistance Options in NYC
With the upcoming changes and the current pause (due to federal government shutdown) on SNAP, we would like to remind everyone that there are many programs in New York City that provide food support for older adults.
From home-delivered meals to community food pantries and senior center meal programs, there are plenty of options to help make sure everyone has access to nutritious food year-round. Our team can help you find nearby resources, check eligibility, and guide you through any applications if needed.
No one should have to worry about meals — please reach out if you or someone you know could use a little help. We’re here for you.
If you would like a consultation on food assistance, social services, or any other case management issues, please email us at communitywellness@nycquakers.org
