Bowne House, Quaker Historic House in Queens
On Wednesday, November 29 at 8:00 p.m. on PBS/WLIW21, Flushing, Queens’ Bowne House Historical Society will be the subject of a one hour program on the popular, award-winning series, “Treasures of New York.” The program will be broadcast on New York’s Ch. 13 at a later date. Produced by Sally Garner, Executive Producer/The WNET Group, the program will highlight the history of the 1661 Bowne House beginning with the family patriarch, John Bowne (1627-1695) and discuss the role multiple generations of its occupants have played in the history of New York City. From the fight for religious freedom to the Underground Railroad Network to Freedom, the program will offer insight into Bowne House’s rich history which is shared with twenty-first century visitors of all ages from around the world who come to Flushing, Queens, the international capital of linguistic and religious diversity.
