Dear Friends,
After thirty-six years of dedicated service at Brooklyn Friends School, Marna Herrity was suddenly terminated late this fall. During her tenure at the school Marna taught dance, math, and Quakerism, coached volleyball and softball, plus served as the Performing Arts Department Chair, co-clerk of the All School Quaker Life Committee, organizer of the BFS-Kisangura sister school relationship, Quaker Youth Leadership Conference lead chaperone, and faculty advisor to the Middle School Student Council. As the recipient of the 2006 Outstanding Faculty Award Marna was cited for her ‘inspiration, integrity, and impact.’Marna and her Quaker support committee are deeply concerned about both her termination and their belief that it did not follow a Quaker process. You are invited to a community meeting at Brooklyn Monthly Meeting, 110 Schermerhorn Street, on February 13th at 6:30pm, to learn more about Marna’s termination, have an opportunity to offer support, and share silent worship holding both Brooklyn Friends School and Marna in the Light. Refreshments will be served from 5:30 – 6:15pm.In friendship,Marna Herrity’s Support CommitteeMichael Black, Nancy Black, Ted Ehrhardt, Jessica Fleischer-Black,Ben Frisch, Joan Malin, Jim Morgan, Benjamin WarnkeCommunity Meeting of Concern for BFS & Marna HerrityThursday, February 13thBrooklyn Monthly Meeting – 6:30pmLight refreshments starting at 5:30pm110 Schermerhorn Street
