George Lakey

Join us for an evening with George Lakey, Quaker activist and author at 15th Street Meeting House on 15 Rutherford Place in NYC on Sunday April 2nd at 7:30pm, sponsored by the Peace and Social Justice Committee. The 85-year-old Lakey has dedicated his life to nonviolent direct action and training others in how to peacefully undertake goal-oriented social actions. George is the author of several books, including his just published autobiography, DANCING WITH HISTORY: a life for peace and justice, an authentic, lively, and honest account of his life and work within and outside the Quaker community. The tales—some of which he will share at the event–are testaments to Lakey’s courage, imagination, and tirelessness: from his 1967 sail to supply the North Vietnamese with medical supplies in an effort to raise mainstream awareness of “the enemy’s” humanity to the his own personal story of courage, in “coming out” bisexual as a married man decadal before LBTQ was part of mainstream culture.

George will sign copies of Dancing with History, which will be available for purchase at the event.
