Join us on the evening of Monday, January 29, 2018 at the Brooklyn Historical Society, 128 Pierrepont Street, where we will present the culmination of two remarkable projects in celebration of the 150th anniversary of Brooklyn Friends School. We will also hear from the Brooklyn Borough Historian, Ron Schweiger, about Brooklyn during the time of our founding and enjoy the music of the BFS Chamber Orchestra.
All That Dwell in the Light is an oral history and archival project conducted by students Lily Edelman ’20 and Salma McLaughlin ’20, as well as history educator Rebecca Krucoff and graphic designer Carl Petrosyan.
In the spring of 2017, the students conducted videotaped interviews of five alumni from the 1940s through the 1980s; the students also conducted research in the Brooklyn Friends School archives. The students, Rebecca and Carl created a museum-quality exhibition that we are proud to share with our school community and all of Brooklyn. A preview of photographs and video clips from the exhibition is now available at the BFS website.
The January 29th event also serves as the official book launch of “Brooklyn Friends School: 150 Years of Light” — an account of images, facts and fascinating stories from 150 years of the BFS archives.
Pre-orders of the book are now available. Place your pre-order now.
